About
Mission Statement
To provide a friendly and informative workspace for language learners and language enthusiasts to collaborate their ideas and knowledge into a useful and helpful community.
Wikilang
WikiLang was first started towards the end of 2009 when the idea of a language wiki came about by an administrator. The idea was to provide a decent and in depth wiki for language learners to use as both a reference and a place for their language adventures to start or to continue. The idea in making it a wiki, rather than some kind of content management system was that it would be a collaborative project where any signed up member could freely contribute to the wiki's ever growing resources to help it grow beyond what it is.
Over the past few months, the wiki has grown expodentially and we have to thank our regular contributors, our administrators and our moderators for that, plus the new members who are slowly trickling in and contributing to our community. Through intiatives started by our members, we have many projects being undertaken such as resources for rare and endangered languages, vocabulary building projects, lessons and the word of the day project. These are all projects, designed by WikiLang members of their own accord and creativity and is free for all to use and benefit from.
Any site like this with such a large amount of contributors expected to be part of it, needs a communal place for people to discuss topics related to the site and otherwise. This is where the WikiLang forum comes into play. It serves as a friendly and well monitored environment for members to converse in their given languages or the languages they study - to practice what they've learned. It also serves as a hub for talking about future developments to the site, reporting issues or suggesting new features. The forum is really starting to thrive these days and it would be greatly appreciated if you are a visiting guest, were to sign up and join in. It's free and it's worth it.
